Travel & Climate Change
In January 2018, Mass Audubon teamed up with NativeEnergy to offset the carbon costs of all flights associated with our tours.
NativeEnergy is a provider of carbon offsets, renewable energy credits, and carbon accounting software. Through Help Build™ carbon offsets, the Mass Audubon tour program finances carbon-reducing projects with strong social and environmental benefits.
How It Works
Each quarter, Mass Audubon's Travel program staff sends NativeEnergy a list of flights to and from our tours. NativeEnergy then calculates the carbon footprint and bills us for the cost to offset this footprint.
The funds we pay to NativeEnergy supports a community-based project called Dempsey Ridge Wind. This project avoids more than 339,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year—equivalent to taking 71,500 cars off the road.
