Eagle Eye Award *new*

Winner certificates awarded to the team with the highest average number of activity points. Points are earned based on the number of nature activities completed by team members. Learn more >

2021 Team Birding Awards


Brewster Cup

Trophy awarded to the team that records the greatest number of species during Bird-a-thon according to the Official Bird-a-thon Rules.

Forbush Award

Plaque awarded to the team with the second highest number of species recorded during Bird-a-thon.

County Cup

Trophy awarded to the team with the highest percentage of the Birding Par Value Number for a chosen county in Massachusetts. Learn more >

Sitting Duck Award *new*

Trophy awarded to the team who records the greatest number of species while staying within a 25-foot diameter circle.


2021 Team Fundraising Awards


Hatheway Cup

Trophy awarded to the team that raises the most money.

The $ Cup

Trophy awarded to the 2nd place team for the most money raised.

Team Spirit Award *new*

Given to the team with the greatest percentage of team members who fundraised at least $50 each.

  • Prize: $100 Visa gift card to use for a project or team party.

2021 Individual Awards


Statewide Top Individual Fundraiser

The individual participant—non-staff—who raises the most money across the state.

  • Prize: A signed, framed, and matted 8 x 10 custom digital illustration of your bird of choice by Mass Audubon graphic designer and artist Kristin Foresto; OR a day of birding with Wayne Petersen, Mass Audubon Director of Important Bird Areas.
Regional Top Individual Fundraisers

The individual participants (three in each region)—non-staff—who raise the most money for his/her team. Must raise at least $250. Does not include Statewide Top Fundraiser.

  • Prize: A $25 Mass Audubon gift card for use in our gift shops or towards programs fees.
Top Staff Fundraisers *new*

Top three staff fundraisers who raise the most money for their team.

  • Prize: Mass Audubon swag from the Mass Audubon Shop.
Young Birder

Any participant under 18 who raises $200 or more.

  • Prize: Mass Audubon swag from the Mass Audubon Shop.
High Flyer

Any individual participant who raises over $500. 

  • Prize: Recognition on the Bird-a-thon results page and an invitation to a join one of two special birding outings with Wayne Petersen, Mass Audubon's Director of Important Bird Areas.
Feathered Friend

Any individual participant who raises at least $125.

  • Prize: A keepsake Bird-a-thon t-shirt. 
Carbon-Free Chickadee

Any team member who remains carbon-free while participating in Bird-a-thon will receive special recognition on the Bird-a-thon results page.

125th Anniversary Challenge

In honor of Mass Audubon's 125th Anniversary, there will be a special 125-item nature scavenger hunt that participants can complete. The scavenger hunt worksheet will be posted the afternoon of Monday, May 10. Participants can start the scavenger hunt when the worksheet is made public, but must complete it by 6:00pm on May 15. Participants who complete the entire scavenger hunt will receive special recognition on the Bird-a-thon results website, and they will also be entered into a drawing for an awesome prize!
