Spanning three centuries and a variety of styles and mediums, the scope of these recent acquisitions is representative of the breadth of Mass Audubon's collection.
Artists included are John James Audubon, Frank Benson, Robert Verity Clem, Arthur Singer, Eric Ennion, John Sill, Clare Walker Leslie, Barry Van Dusen, Lars Jonsson, Darren Rees, David Sibley, Nils Navarro and Sherrie York. Subjects range from White-crowned Sparrow to Wilson's Snipe and Snowy Owl.
The exhibit also includes two pristine sets of 25 miniatures by Elmer Crowell—songbirds and waterfowl—as well as a rare group of nine waterfowl by Rhode Island carver Harold Gibbs.
Many of these artworks came to the collection as generous donations from MABA supporters. Museum visitors, both present and future, are the fortunate beneficiaries of these splendid gifts.
The exhibition is in the gallery at the Museum of American Bird Art.
Reservations are required to visit the gallery.
