Wildwood Staff

At Wildwood, we pride ourselves on our high-quality staff, a diverse group of talented and caring individuals. We seek enthusiastic, fun, and mature adults who care about the safety and well-being of our campers, each other, and the natural environment.

Our camp staff includes educators, naturalists, and college students from the U.S. and around the world—all dedicated adults at least 19 who bring the Wildwood program to life through their creativity. Staff work to create a positive community and ensure each camper has a safe and rewarding camp experience.

Experience & Credentials

We select individuals who have experience working with children and a strong desire to share their knowledge of the natural world. Our application process includes thorough interviews and background and reference checks. Prior to the start of camp, staff are required to participate in an intensive two-week training program focused on child development and supervision, health and safety procedures, and environmental education.

All camp staff hold CPR and first-aid certifications, and many hold activity-specific certifications such as lifeguarding, archery, boating, ropes course, and Wilderness First Aid. We have around-the-clock, licensed health care staff on site, along with access to an on-call pediatric practice at nearby Monadnock Community Hospital.

Wildwood Summer Staff

Counselors

Counselors are the foundation of our camp program. They love to sing songs, play games, and explore the natural world alongside campers. All of our counselors are at least 18 years old and work hard to facilitate a successful experience for every camper.

Unit Leaders

Each unit (age group of campers) is led by a unit leader, who provides guidance and inspires creativity both for counselors and for campers. They are at least 20 years old and have even more camp and/or youth development experience.

ELP Facilitators

Selected specifically for their abilities to engage with teens, ELP staff members are at least 21 years old and have plenty of experience serving as great role models.

Program Staff

These program-area directors oversee specialized programs at Wildwood, like the waterfront, ropes course, nature discovery programming, and special events. These staff members facilitate, train, and oversee counseling staff to assist in those areas. All program area directors are at least 21 years old and complete additional training in their program area.

Health Care Staff

Our health care staff is critical to ensuring the health and safety of everyone at Wildwood. This team includes a Registered Nurse who is on-site daily. Camp health care emphasizes keeping campers and staff healthy and preventing injury and illness, so everyone can enjoy their camp sessions.

Wildwood Leadership Team

Becky Gilles, Director

Becky Gilles joined Wildwood in 2018 following 12 years as Camp Director of Mass Audubon’s Drumlin Farm Camp in Lincoln. Becky has a lifelong passion for camp and getting kids outdoors; she has been working at summer camp since she was 16 years old! 

Becky holds a master’s degree in environmental education from Antioch University New England and spent several years as a camp director in Virginia before coming to Mass Audubon. In her spare time, Becky enjoys hiking with her dog, Gunther, bird watching, exploring Maine, and snowshoeing in the winter.

Stan Fowler, Adventure Program Director

Stan Fowler joined the Wildwood team in 2021 as Ropes Course Director and now serves as the Adventure Program Director. Stan has been working in the outdoor adventure field for over 20 years, guiding rock climbing, mountain biking, paddling, backpacking, and winter mountaineering trips for a local Y adventure program. He holds a BS in physics from the University of Texas.

Stan has a passion for getting people into the backcountry. He enjoys teaching adventure skills and spent many years as a competitive climbing coach. In his free time, Stan enjoys mountain running, rock climbing, traveling, and renovating the log home he shares with his wife, Candice, and their pup, Ethan.

Anne Wentworth, Office Manager

Anne Wentworth joined the Wildwood team in 2021. Anne is a "Naval brat" who grew up in rural New England. She has a BA in Psychology from Douglass College, Rutgers, and a long history of secretarial work since 1987 BC (Before Computers). 

She was introduced to Wildwood while helping the local Boy Scout Troop participate in a camp Volunteer Day and fell in love with the place and the people. Now that her kids are finishing college, she has chosen to switch gears and help out the younger generation. Anne has also been a NH Destination Imagination coach and District Director for local kids for the past ten years.

She looks forward to streamlining the Wildwood office and is thrilled that Mass Audubon matches her values concerning wildlife and nature, diversity, inclusion, and empowering others. (Working in the woods on Hubbard Pond and the zipline at Wildwood are nice, too.) Anne is a cat- and bird-lover, gardener, outdoor photographer, and is looking forward to having grandchildren (but not too soon).
