American Eel
The American Eel, or the Anuilla, was unknown until the 20th century. The American Eel is born
in fresh water, but eventually makes its way to the Atlantic Ocean.
The American Eel is greenish-yellow with enlarged lips. It tends
to travel in groups with other eels. The American Eel can grow
to be four feet long and has a flattened body allowing it to swim
through the water with ease. Once fully matured, the American
Eel breeds and then dies shortly after mating. The American Eel
eats small fish and crabs, and is an important link in the area's
food chain.
