Explore by Kayak: Quanset Pond and the Islands of Pleasant Bay

Description

Spend the day exploring the largest estuary on Cape Cod, Pleasant Bay, with an experienced naturalist and paddler. Begin at quiet Quanset Pond and paddle through the narrows to Sipson Island, a newly protected property within Pleasant Bay. Here, we will stop for a short walk to explore the island. We will then continue to Little Sipson Island.

Throughout the day, we will meander through the marsh and open water, looking out towards Nauset Beach and the Atlantic beyond. Osprey, herons, egrets, grey seals, and a variety of mollusks are just some of the species we may observe on this scenic paddle.

Currents and winds are a factor to consider in this system, and sustained periods of paddling is required of participants. Recent, previous paddling experience is required.

Instructions

This trip meets and leaves from Quanset Landing (directions sent with confirmation).

Please arrive 10 minutes in advance of the start of the program. Note that the ending time for kayak trips is approximate. We make every effort to finish the trip by the ending time listed but because we are dealing with wind, tide and differing degrees of experience on the part of the participants, there is always the possibility that the trip will run longer than anticipated. For this reason, we suggest that you not count on the trip ending at the time listed and plan accordingly.

Participants may choose among available single kayaks or bring their own kayak. All equipment is provided including small dry bags; all participants must wear life jackets.

We recommend that you bring water, sunscreen, bug spray, windbreaker, hat, towel, and lunch or a snack. There are no facilities, such as restrooms or water fountains, at the meeting places.

Please note our cancellation policy: In order to receive a refund, you must notify us of your cancellation at least 7 days before the program begins. If we cancel the program, you will receive a full refund. We reserve the right to change programs, schedules, and instructors, and to cancel programs due to low enrollment or unfavorable weather.
