Birds by the Boardwalk at Stony Brook

Special Event: Saturday, May 11

Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary in Norfolk welcomes the warmth of spring and the return of our feathered friends with an afternoon full of activities: guided naturalist-led walks, live bird demonstrations, accessible birding on the boardwalk, bird seed crafts, bird house building, and more! This free drop-in event coincides with Bird-a-thon, Mass Audubon’s largest annual fundraiser and nature celebration and will include opportunities to learn more and join our team.

Bird Walks

Three drop-in guided walks offer slightly different experiences for each audience. The Family Walk will be a more relaxed and kid-friendly adventure, the All Ages walk will have a little more serious birding, and the Adult Walk, for all levels of birders, will have a more specific focus on finding birds, especially our migrating friends. Bring your own binoculars for the best chance of seeing wildlife on the trails.

Guided Bird Walk Times

  • 10:30-11:30 am - Family
  • 11:30 am-12:30 pm - All Ages
  • 12:30-1:30 pm - Adults

Accessible Birding

The Stony Brook boardwalk and viewing platform provide a unique opportunity to observe a wide variety of species. A Mass Audubon expert will be on the boardwalk with a spotting scope, identifying as many species as possible, helping participants spot birds, and answering any questions you may have.

Live Bird Demonstrations

Meet some of our winged animal ambassadors from Blue Hills Trailside Museum up close! A Mass Audubon wildlife biologist and ornithologist will present on-going live bird demonstrations with our Broad-winged Hawk, Peregrine Falcon, and Barred Owl throughout the day.
