OBJECTIVES
OF THE PROGRAM
Our mission is to encourage young children to enjoy and explore the
outdoors through games and other learning experiences.
We want to facilitate their natural curiosity and joy in the world
around them and help them to establish ownership of this wildlife
sanctuary. Children have the freedom to play and interact with their
environment, learning to appreciate the variety and scope of the
natural world.
Children in our program will
- develop their
own meaningful relationship with nature
- spend at least
half the time outdoors
- find out how
specific habitats change seasonally
- observe changes
in a particular tree over a season
- hone observation
skills and be more aware of sounds, smells and textures
- have the
opportunity to express themselves in art
Some of our seasonal
activities allow children to:
- get close to a
variety of live animals
- recognize some
common birdsongs
- name some common
cycles in nature
- identify
habitats for specific animals
- learn how to
dress for various weather conditions
- be aware of
the colors in the winter landscape
