2012 Bird-a-thon Team Finds Species of Special Concern
Published: June 13, 2012
Bird-a-thon at Broad Meadow Brook flew by this year on May 11 and 12. We were blessed with beautiful weather and very pleased to report that we had 5 teams which stayed local in the Blackstone Valley with a few exceptions.
Broad Meadow Brook team saw a total of 119 species in the 24 hours.
LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BIRDS!!
Teams found:
- 19 species of warblers
- 4 species of owls
- A highlight this year was a species of
Special concern - the hard to find Whip-poor-will which is listed on Mass Audubon’s Birds to Watch list. Whip-poor-wills were once very common but now their populations are in decline.
Thanks to all who birded, donated, and supported Bird-a-thon!
If you have not had a chance to donate there is still time! Bird-a-thon Coordinator, Sheryl Farnam, is still collecting donations. You can mail a check (made out to Mass Audubon) to Broad Meadow Brook or make a donation online.
All donations will support education and conservation at Broad Meadow Brook. Thank you! |
