Horseshoe Crab Conference – April 5

To raise awareness of horseshoe crab biology and conservation, and to recruit volunteers to assist with a local census and tagging study, the Wellfleet Bay Sanctuary is hosting a Horseshoe Crab Conference on Saturday, April 5, 9 am - 3 pm.

This FREE conference will feature presentations by local experts, a panel discussion, and posters and exhibits. Presentations include the biology and development of horseshoe crabs by Dr. Daniel Gibson; the management of horseshoe crab fisheries by Division of Marine Fisheries coastal ecologist Alison Leschen; bio-medical uses of these marine invertebrates by Dr. Michael Dawson of Associates of Cape Cod; and population status within the Cape Cod National Seashore by Dr. Mary-Jane James-Pirri.

Also, the newly released PBS Nature documentary "Clash: A Tale of Two Species" will be shown during the lunch break, after which the writer, director and producer of the film, Allison Argo of Argo Films, will be available for questions. Ms. Argo is a Cape native currently residing in Brewster. See brochure (PDF 101K) for a more detailed schedule or contact the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary at 508-349-2615 or wellfleet@massaudubon.org to register or for more information.
