Vision for State Forestlands

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is undertaking a public engagement "Forest Vision" process to review policies and practices for management of forestlands under its care and control. Mass Audubon has issued a position statement (PDF 124K) on DCR forestland management issues that should be addressed and resolved through this process.

Meanwhile, the five-year recertification review of the "Green Certification" of state forestlands under the Forest Stewardship Council's (FSC) sustainable forestry standards is underway. Mass Audubon has submitted comments (PDF 58K), requesting that the review thoroughly document the extent of compliance with the FSC standards.

Mass Audubon encourages its members and the public to participate in the Forest Vision process. Additional information regarding DCR's forest management programs, FSC Certification, and public comment opportunities is available on DCR's website.

For more information on Mass Audubon's position and advocacy on state forestland management, contact Heidi Ricci.
