This program is designed for beginning birders who want to learn and practice the many aids to field identification, including physical characteristics, behavior, coloration, and habitat preference. During our field trip, we will visit the most productive birding areas in the Newburyport/Plum Island area. The large number of migrant and resident birds in the ocean, salt marshes, rivers, and uplands of this area makes it an excellent outdoor classroom for beginners.
The pace for our field trip will be relatively slow to ensure that participants see the birds well and have the time to work through the identification process. This program is a great way to start birding and to explore this beautiful part of the state.
Instructions and Directions: Please wear comfortable clothing and sturdy shoes/boots; bring binoculars, snacks, and a lunch. Meet at the Joppa Flats Education Center.
