Family Dusk Paddles: Welcoming the Summer

Sponsored by Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Fri, Jun 18, 2010 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Location: Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Topsfield
Instructor: Sanctuary Staff
Audience: All (suitable for children 6 - 16 years)
Members: Adult $13.00, Child $11.00
Nonmembers: Adult $15.00, Child $13.00

Bring your family and join us for an evening paddle in a canoe as we learn more about the river and some of its inhabitants. Sign up for one or more of these great paddles.

Welcoming the Summer: June 14
Celebrate the coming of summer with the solstice just around the corner. As we paddle along, we'll look for plants and animals that are equally excited about the approaching season.

River Mammals: July 12
Have you ever seen a muskrat swimming or a beaver slapping its tail in alarm? Join us as we look for these elusive mammals and discover some of the clues they leave behind as we make our way along the Ipswich River.

Owls on the Ipswich River: July 26
Many kinds of owls call in the night with their hoots and screams as the sun fades and dusk descends. We'll look and listen for owls as we paddle along. We'll talk about the types of owls we're likely to find at this time of year and do some hooting ourselves.

Discovering Wetlands: August 9
Being on the water is one of the best ways to explore and discover the wonders of wetlands. We will paddle through the winding backwaters lined with cattails and other marsh plants, looking for hidden wildlife. Using buckets and strainers, we'll stop and sample the rich aquatic life to learn more about what lives under the water.

Instructions and Directions: Meets in front of the Visitor Center. Basic paddling instruction will be provided, along with all equipment. Participants must be able to swim. A confirmation with information on what to wear and bring will be sent.

Registration is required.
