Sun, Dec 06, 2009 10:00 am - 4:00 pm Instructor: Kathy Seymour Audience: Adult Fee: Adults $45.00m/ $55.00nm Whether you are just getting started observing birds, or you have been birding awhile but would like to develop your expertise, these programs are for you. Programs in this series are designed to give you tools to gain confidence finding and identifying birds on your own. Programs will be paced so that everyone will have plenty of time to see the birds and work through the identification process. We’ll practice a simple, logical approach to field identification, discuss tips for making the most of your time in the field, and introduce you to the wealth of resources available to birders. Each program can be taken individually, or as part of a comprehensive group. Discounted fee for whole series: $95 member/ $120 non-member See Oct 8, Oct 10, Nov 14, and Feb 6.
We will visit Parker River NWR and other productive areas in the Newburyport area. While enjoying the golden beauty of the fall salt marsh, we will experience the influx of ducks, loons, grebes and other coastal species migrating through the area or arriving at their winter home on the coast of Massachusetts. More than 20 species of ducks can be found in the state, many only during the fall and winter. Being large, strikingly patterned, and relatively sedentary, these birds are perfect for practicing field identification skills.
