Nature Tales: Busy Beavers

Sponsored by Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary

Sat, Dec 01, 2012 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Location: Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, Topsfield
Instructor: Kim LoGrasso - Youth Education Manager
Audience: Family (suitable for children 3 - 6 years)
Members: Adult $7.00, Child $6.00
Nonmembers: Adult $9.00, Child $7.00

Join us for one or more of these adventures. We will share a children's nature story before we explore the woods, fields, and wetlands of the sanctuary.

Insects and Spiders: September 29
We'll read Chirping Crickets by Melvin Berger. A field is a wonderful place to find lots of different bugs. We will provide sweep nets and bug boxes so that you can get a closer look at what may be hiding in the tall grass.

Wonderful Wetlands: October 20
We'll read Squish!, A Wetland Walk by Nancy Luenn. Then using buckets and strainers, we will explore a pond and a wetland habitat and search for critters that swim, soar, and crawl.

Life in a Log: November 10
We'll read A Log's Life by Wendy Pfeffer and discover that logs are their own little habitats. Using hand lenses and bug boxes, we will examine salamanders, fungi, and other log dwellers.

Busy Beavers: December 1
We'll read Beaver at Long Pond by William T. and Lindsay Barrett George, and then take a walk to Rockery Pond to see a beaver lodge, dam, beaver chews, and scent mounds. As a group, we will build our own lodge.

Instructions and Directions: Meets in the Nature Center. Please dress for the weather since we will be outside most of the time.

Registration is required.
