In Search of Winter Raptors Sponsored by Drumlin Farm
Sat, Jan 16, 2010 9:00 am - 5:30 pm Location: Plum Island, MA Instructors: Kathy Seymour; Jackie Pascucci Audience: Adult Fee: Adults $50.00m/ $60.00nm We will explore the Merrimack River, Plum Island and Salisbury State Park looking for eagles, hawks and owls. Winter is an exciting time to be in the field, since it is our only opportunity to see wintering species such as Snowy and Short-eared owls and Rough-legged Hawk. The mouth of the Merrimack River hosts many Bald Eagles as inland waters freeze. We will take time to closely observe these raptor species, and discuss their adaptations that allow them to survive our harsh winters. We will also take the opportunity to view wintering waterfowl and any other winter specialties we encounter such as Northern Shrike. Lunch, not included in fee, will be at a heated restaurant.
Open to anyone age 16 or older. Instructions and Directions: Dress for the weather and bring binoculars and guide book if available. Transportation provided from Drumlin Farm Education parking lot. Lunch, not included, will be in a heated restaurant. Registration is required. Register by mail: program registration form. (PDF 66K) Register by phone: with a credit card by calling 781-259-2200.
