Bird-a-thon Incentives, Trophies, and Prizes
Brewster Cup:
Trophy awarded to the one team that records the greatest number of species during Bird-a-thon.
Forbush Award:
Trophy awarded to the 2nd place team for most species seen.
Hatheway Cup:
Trophy awarded to the one team that raises the most money.
The $ Cup:
Trophy awarded to the 2nd place team for the most money raised.
Statewide Migration Award:
Trophy awarded to the team that shows the greatest percentage increase in fundraising total from the previous year. New teams in 2009 are not eligible.
IBA Regional Award:
Trophy awarded to the team that sees the highest % of species of all teams birding according to IBA Regional Award Rules.
Regional Migration Awards (one in each region):
For: The three teams (one in each region) that show the greatest percentage increase in fundraising totals from the previous year. (This does not include the winner of the statewide Migration Award.)
Prize: Mass Audubon-funded team celebration event such as a pizza or ice cream party for each of the three teams.
Statewide Top Individual Fundraiser Award:
For: The Bird-a-thon team member (non-staff) who raises the most money across the state.
Prize: A framed painting by acclaimed wildlife artist Barry van Dusen. The painting was published on the cover of Bird Watcher’s Digest, December 1992. See the painting and find out more about it.
Regional Top Individual Fundraisers Awards (3 in each region):
For: The individual team members (non-staff) who raise the most money for his/her team. Must be at least $250.
Prize: Mass Audubon organic cotton tote.
Young Birder Award:
For: Any birder under 18 who raises $200 or more.
Prize: Mass Audubon organic cotton tote.
Feathered Friend Award:
For: Any Bird-a-thon team member who raises at least $75 in sponsor pledges, or obtains at least 10 sponsors.
Prize: Bird-a-thon T-shirt – high quality t-shirt with a complete Massachusetts bird checklist on the back! Team Member’s choice of scoop neck in uni-sex sizes, or v-neck women’s cut.
