Search Help and Tips.
General Search You can reduce or increase the number of programs returned in your search by doing one of the following:
- For fewer results limit your search by selecting a smaller range of dates.
- For more results try selecting fewer criteria. For example use only the region and date fields or select more than one program type.
- If you do not select an item from a drop down list it is the same as selecting all of the items. For example, if you do not select a date range for your search your results will display programs that occur on any date.
Searching by Keyword
The Keywords Search will return all programs that have any of the keywords associated with them. Please note that keywords are separated by commas and more than one word can be a keyword. For example if you enter birding, ornithology, hawks, migration your search results could include birding programs as well as programs on butterfly migration.
When fewer keywords are used the results will be more specific. For example, if you use the keyword bird banding your results will only include programs that have the words bird banding in the title or as an associated keyword.
Searching by Program Type
You can select one or more program types from the checkboxes, if you do not check any boxes your results will return all programs of all types. If you do not see the specific program type that you are looking for do not choose any and try using the keyword search. For example, if you are looking for programs for home-schooled students do not choose a type but type home school in the keyword search box.
Searching by Program Audience or Childs age
You can select one or more program audience types from the checkboxes; if you do not check any boxes your results will return programs for all audiences.
When searching for children's programs you can further refine your search by entering the age of the child. If you are looking for programs that can accommodate children of different ages enter the age of either child, but be aware that your results may display programs that are only appropriate for the age entered. However the ages will be clearly displayed on the results page.
Searching by Instructor
When using the Instructors name as a search criteria you can use either or both, first and last name, i.e. John or Smith or John Smith or John S. You can enter all of these possible combinations as long as you place a comma between each entry, i.e. John, Smith, John Smith, and John S.
If you are unsure of the spelling try using the first four letters of the name, i.e. for programs taught by John Smithenheimer you could try J Smith or Smith or Jo Sm and your results will return programs taught by both John Smith and John Smithenheimer as well as any other instructors with very similar names such as Joan Smithers. However you need to type at least four characters to run a search.
