Everyone’s Invited:
Free Discovery Days

Thanks for a great 2011 Discovery Day season. We had so much sharing our wildlife sanctuaries with everyone. Check back in early 2012 to see what we have planned for the next series.

  • Free admission for everyone
  • Free activities - animals, naturalist walks, crafts, and more
2011 Event Schedule

June 18 - North River, Marshfield
Garden Tours and Open House

Discover North River Wildlife Sanctuary's Storybook Trail, enjoy our new bird garden, learn about native plants that attract birds and butterflies, and visit our Discovery Room. Tours of the garden are scheduled for 10:30, 12:30 and 2:30. Other activities are ongoing throughout the day including activities for children.

July 16 - Broad Meadow Brook, Worcester
Wilds of Worcester

Come discover Broad Meadow Brook's peace and beauty. We will feature guided nature walks, nature crafts, face painting, animals, food and more. Find out how you can escape into the Wilds of Worcester!

August 6 - Drumlin Farm, Lincoln
Nature Play Day

Celebrate fun and creative outdoor play the old fashioned way. Romp in the hay playground, test your skills on our natural obstacle course, and explore the Forest Discovery Trail. Naturalists will lead hands-on programs related to wildlife, farming, and the environment. And of course you're welcome to visit our farm animals, crop fields, and collection of native New England mammals and birds.

September 10 - Blue Hills, Milton
Fall Bird Migration

Join in the fun as we discover secrets of bird migration. As fall approaches, come learn about birds' travels south, why they go, and the preparations they need to make. We'll have hourly programs and activities featuring the opportunity to meet hawks, owls, and other animals.

October 1 - Attleboro Springs, Attleboro
Grand Opening of the Reflection Trail

Join staff and volunteers at Attleboro Springs as we celebrate the first anniversary of this new sanctuary and the grand opening of our new Reflection Trail. Celebrate the senses as we explore the sights, sounds, smells, and feel of nature through guided activities. (And there will be treats to delight the sense of taste, too). Animals, vernal pool activities, children's crafts and traditional games in the field make this a fun filled day for all.

October 22 – Wellfleet Bay, South Wellfleet
Fall by the Bay

Discover Wellfleet Bay during one of its most beautiful seasons. Explore 1,100 acres of salt marsh, sandy beach, pine woodland, freshwater pond, and rare heathland that attracts a wide array of wildlife. The day’s events will include adult- and kid-friendly naturalist guided walks and a fun scavenger hunt, as well as opportunities to explore the building’s innovative green features.
