Camp Camp Nurse (1 position) - Wildwood Location: Rindge, NH Manage Wildwood‘s health care for about 120 campers/50 staff per session, following NH state regulations and ACA standards. Dispense medications, evaluate and treat (or refer) injuries and illnesses, monitor camp program for safety and health concerns, and keep detailed records of care and communication. Communicate effectively with camper families and counseling staff. Live on-site in private residence. Qualifications: RN license valid in New Hampshire and current through the camp season, and valid driver’s license. Experience working with children, working at a summer camp or school, teaching health-related skills, and supervising staff. Age 21+. Counselor/Naturalist - Wildwood Location: Rindge, NH Live with and care for campers and lead group development and recreation activities. Plan and teach environmental/outdoor activities around topics which may include wetland, forest, and field ecology; arts & crafts; low-impact hiking and outdoor skills; bird, insect, and herps study; organic gardening, recycling, and sustainable living; ropes course and group initiatives. Additional certifications may earn additional salary. Qualifications: Age 18+, high school graduate. Experience working with children in an outdoor, preferably camp setting and interest in teaching and learning about the environment. College-level study in science, natural history, ecology, conservation, education, or other camp-related topics desired. Live with and care for campers and lead group development and recreation activities. Plan and teach a variety of environmental/outdoor activities. Qualifications: Age 18+, high school graduate. Experience working with children in an outdoor, preferably camp setting and interest in teaching and learning about the environment. Junior Counselor Location: Rindge, NH Junior Counselors at Wildwood are employed for four weeks (July 1-28, 2012 OR July 29–August 25, 2012).
The Junior Counselor experience balances three core aspects of working at camp: Training, Service and Counseling. Applicants can expect to work hard and gain valuable experience. During the four weeks, performance will be monitored to help determine possible future employment as a Wildwood Counselor.
- Participate fully in a variety of training opportunities
- Learn and practice counseling techniques through mentorship with unit staff
- Carry out service work to benefit the Wildwood community, including kitchen, maintenance, and conservation tasks
- Participate fully in the Wildwood community and act as a positive role model for campers and peers
- Assist staff with counseling, program, and teaching duties as assigned
- Help prepare for and facilitate some Evening Programs and Special Events
- Abide by all Wildwood and Mass Audubon policies and procedures
- Demonstrate respect for all members of the community
- Thoughtfully reflect on personal performance and participate in a complete evaluation process
- Maintain positive, professional relationships with co-workers
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications: Junior Counselor positions are open to applicants who will be at least 17 years old and have completed the eleventh grade by the start of the term of employment, and who have a desire to develop skills related to camp and working with children in the natural environment. Experience as a Wildwood LIT is preferred, though not required. Applicants must be willing to work a flexible schedule, live full-time in a residential camp setting, and commit to an entire four-week employment period. Benefits: Junior Counselors receive a $400 stipend, as well as training, housing and meals, for the duration of employment, and other benefits. Leader-in-Training Counselor - Wildwood Location: Rindge, NH Work with the Leader-in-Training (LIT) Director to facilitate and evaluate all aspects of the LIT program including training, coaching, supervising, and evaluating LIT participants. Live with and care for teens in the LIT program. Work with Unit Leaders and Directors to integrate LIT program into overall Wildwood program. Help to plan & provide other camp programs. Ropes Course Director - Wildwood Location: Rindge, NH Plan, facilitate, and supervise Challenge Education program on high/low ropes course. Maintain high level of physical & emotional safety and meet all ACA & ACCT industry standards. Play a leadership role in planning & providing other camp programs. May be asked to sub as counselor on occasion. Qualifications: Must have 40+ hours of documented ropes course facilitation and some course management training or experience, and valid driver’s license. Trek Leader - Wildwood Location: Rindge, NH Work with a co-leader to follow 1-week trip itineraries, care for and supervise 5-8 teen campers, and act as representative of Mass Audubon and Wildwood on trips throughout New England: Maine Coast and mountains, Cape Cod & Nantucket Island, Vermont Green Mountains, New Hampshire White Mountains.
