On-Site Caretaker – Monadnock Conservation Center/Wildwood Camp
Location: Rindge, NH
Provide a total of 8 hours of work per week (not including routine security and community relations) as an On-Site Caretaker in a Mass Audubon residence at the Monadnock Conservation Center in Rindge, NH.
Hours and workdays are generally flexible subject to the review and approval of the caretaker’s supervisor; however, certain tasks must occasionally be completed on specific days.
In addition to the 8 hours of work per week, provide security throughout the sanctuary by being the ongoing and dependable presence in the residence and on the property; provide alternative (supervisor approved) security in times of planned absences of more than 48 hours, and contact local or state law enforcement agencies in response to emergency or security situations.
Serve as an ambassador for Mass Audubon with neighbors, vendors, local officials, and others. Prepare buildings for occasional scheduled user groups, and welcome and orient group leaders. Walk trails and roads regularly. In the winter, assist with snow removal, including plowing. Attend meetings as required. Maintain a work log to be submitted every two weeks and follow all conditions set forth in the Mass Audubon Housing License Agreement. Communicate regularly and responsively, in person, by phone, and by e-mail, with the Sanctuary Director, Property Staff, and other year-round and seasonal camp staff.
Qualifications: The anticipated start date is December 1, 2009. The ideal applicant will have experience living and working in a residential outdoor education or camp setting. A successful applicant will work independently and have a flexible schedule.
Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license in good standing and be able to move materials and equipment weighing over 50 pounds and walk on wooded trails or over rough terrain. Demonstrated interest in and familiarity with Mass Audubon’s mission, goals, and policies. Certification in First Aid/CPR, and basic maintenance/grounds skills desirable. Must live full time, year round on-site and pay the cost of all utilities associated with occupying a newly remodeled two-bedroom residence.
