Gallery Volunteer
Location: Canton, MA
Exhibition Gallery Visitor Services
Duties:
Welcome visitors and take admission fees. Sell Mass Audubon memberships and gift shop items. Provide basic information to visitors about Mass Audubon and the Visual Arts Center (VAC); the current exhibition, and exhibition-related children’s activities. Do occasional other tasks (e.g. assistance with a mailing, tidying gift shop displays) as time permits.
Hours:
Desired commitment is one 2-hour period per week (2:00-4:00), Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. We request an initial commitment of 6 months.
Qualifications: Friendly, outgoing, responsible, good communication skills, able to work independently. Flexibility is essential, since duties will vary with fluctuating visitation. Experience working with the public. Familiarity with a cash register is a plus, but not required.
Benefits: VAC volunteers enjoy interacting with diverse audiences, extraordinary exhibitions and collections, and a dynamic staff. In addition, volunteers may have opportunities to view seldom-seen works of art in Mass Audubon’s collection and to meet visiting artists. The VAC is pleased to reward volunteers for their hard work and dedication with a 20% discount on gift shop purchases, a 20% (occasionally greater) discount on programs, and an invitation to the special annual volunteer recognition event.
