Programs for Schools and Children/Young Adult Groups

The Joppa Flats Education Center in Newburyport offers a wide variety of fun and educational ecology-based programs for Pre-K through high school grades year-round. We will engage your students in the wonders of our natural world through live animal presentations, inquiry-based learning, outdoor field trips, and science stations throughout the year. Visit us at Plum Island, our “outdoor classroom”, or in our education center. We can also bring the natural world to your location for classroom, schoolyard, library, or afterschool programs. We even offer late spring education cruises on the Merrimack River.

A sampling of our program topics include:

  • Tide Pools & the Rocky Shore
  • Raptors
  • A Visit to the Bird Banding Station
  • Salt Marshes
  • Weather & The Water Cycle
  • Nocturnal Creatures
  • Ponding

Schools

We work one-on-one with each teacher to help you select the program that best suits the curricular needs. Our programs are aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Education frameworks for Life Science and Earth Science, and learning standards in History, Math, and Geology can also be integrated into our programs and field trips. Math learning standards can also be included in our programs. Let us help you connect your students or group to the nature of Massachusetts. Programs available for grades PreK-12.
