Joppa Flats Summer Camp

Half and full-day adventures for children ages 6-12

Joppa Flats Summer Camp is the perfect place for youth with an interest in and curiosity about the world around them. Our weekly summer themes offer a wide range of topics – everything from oceans to birds to nature art – as well as opportunities for children to experience hands-on science, discuss reasons “why” and “how” things happen, handle live animals, explore the outdoors, and create art projects to take home. We stress environmental awareness, having fun, and learning, both indoors and out.

At Joppa Flats, we focus is all that coastal Massachusetts has to offer: the shoreline, the estuary, and other local ecosystems. We visit Plum Island, the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, and Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, and we work with local organizations to bring our campers closer to nature in the greater Merrimack River Valley.

Summer camp staff are trained in CPR and First Aid. Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats is accredited by the American Camping Association. We meet both the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and American Camping Association standards for program content, staffing, training, counselor-to-camper ratios, health and safety policies, site and facilities, and administration.

NEW! After Camp Care
Joppa Flats is offering After Camp Care for parents who need a little extra time to pick up campers at the end of the day. Youth must be signed up for After Camp Care at least two weeks in advance, preferably at time of registration. We do require a minimum number of participants to run After Camp Care.

  • Ages 6-8: Offered from 1:30 to 3:00 pm for $9 per day or $30 per week.
  • Ages 9-10: Offered from 3:00 to 4:00 pm for $6 per day or $20 per week.

Camp Scholarships
Limited camp scholarships are available. Please call Joppa Flats at 978-462-9998 for an application form or for more information. All applicants must supply verification of income or documentation that financial assistance is needed. Deadline for scholarship applications is April 16, 2013.
