Assistant Director
Location: Topsfield, MA

Direct and lead nature activities in a natural history day camp for children ages 7 to 11, with the assistance of 4 counselors and 5 assistant counselors. The camp emphasizes group cooperation, nature study, and experiential learning. Special activities include hiking and canoeing.

Qualifications:

  • Education: B.A. or B.S. in education or related degree with appropriate work experience.
  • Experience in leading natural history activities relating to local environments in a camp setting.
  • Ability to supervise staff and develop age-appropriate natural history lessons.
  • Interest in, and understanding of children, and a desire to share outdoor experiences with them.
  • Certification in American Red Cross First Aid and Community CPR.
  • Certification in American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety, Canoe.

Canoe Activities Counselor
Location: Topsfield, MA

Lead canoe trips on the Ipswich River and act as a counselor in a natural history day camp for children ages 7 to 11. The camp emphasizes group cooperation, nature study, and experiential learning.

Qualifications:

  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Interest in and understanding of children, and a desire to share outdoor experiences with them.
  • Ability to follow direction and work in a team atmosphere.
  • Canoe experience and the ability to teach paddling skills.
  • Certification in American Red Cross Basic Water Rescue and Small Craft Safety-Canoe. (Training provided)

Audubon Nature Festival

Sunday, June 3, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Our annual Audubon Nature Festival will be held on Sunday, June 3. We are seeking volunteers to participate in committees to help with fundraising, publicity, programming, and food. We will also need people to donate baked goods for our bake sale, and, of course, to help on the day of the event with admissions, parking cars, food sales, assisting with children’s activities, and much more.

Earth Day Eastern Point Beach Cleanup
Location: Gloucester, MA

Saturday, April 21, 9:00 a.m. to noon

Help collect debris washed into the cove at Mass Audubon’s Eastern Point Wildlife Sanctuary in Gloucester. Bring work gloves, your friends and family, and a picnic lunch to enjoy on the rocks afterwards as you take in the ocean view.

Gardeners

Sugaring Off
Location: Topsfield, MA

The sanctuary will run weekend tours of its maple sugaring operation on Saturday, February 25, and Saturdays and Sundays, March 3 & 4, March 10 & 11, and March 17 & 18. We are looking for volunteers to give guided tours (training date: Saturday, February 11, 9:00 a.m. to noon), as well as bakers and soup-makers to make food for us to sell, plus people to help with parking, food sales, and more. Applications for guiding should be made by February 3; all others by February 17.
