Know Your Food: Eating Locally with Nutrition in Mind
Sponsored by Drumlin Farm

Tue, Oct 06, 2009 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Location: Drumlin Farm Nature Center
Instructor: Robyn DeCiero - nutritionist
Audience: Adult
Fee: Adults $15.00m/ $20.00nm

Eating locally has definite benefits but following a practical and healthy eating plan is important, too. Much of the popular, nutritional food touted in health magazines are not found year round and many aren’t ever grown in New England. This class will look at how a ‘locavore’ can design a healthy diet using foods found in the northeast. We will discuss the five major food groups and identify local sources for foods from each, as well as why local foods are often nutritionally superior. Also, we will prepare a nutritionally balanced snack using local foods. Participants will receive recipes and nutritional information to take home.

Open to anyone age 16 or older.
