Camp

Camp Environmental Educator (5-week long position)
Location: Natick, MA

Broadmoor Summer Camp is seeking enthusiastic staff to co-lead campers in grades K – 5 in exploring fields, forests and marsh, and hiking up to 9 miles of trail in small groups. Staff will also lead hands-on activities, games, crafts and songs. Exciting camp overnight for the grade 4 – 5 program. Staff may also participate in supervising campers in before and after care.

Join Broadmoor’s team of committed staff who enjoy working and learning together. Camp Environmental Educators plan, develop, and teach a variety of outdoor activities; provide leadership for campers and counselors in training; supervise camper health and safety; and regularly communicate with parents and staff. Qualifications: Assistant Environmental Educators must be at least 18 years old; have experience working with and enjoy being with children; and have the ability to lead walks on rough terrain and implement nature-based games, crafts, and activities. Preferred candidates are studying toward a degree in early education, psychology, life sciences or education. Current certification in Community CPR and Basic First Aid required. We can assist you in finding courses.

Schedule: Training begins June 12. Camp runs Monday – Friday, July 2 through August 3.

Compensation and Benefits: Salary ranges from $8-$10/hour.

Counselor-In-Training Volunteers
Location: Natick, MA

Broadmoor Summer Camp is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to assist camp educators with hands-on activities, games, crafts and songs. Have fun exploring fields, forests and marsh, and hiking up to 9 miles of trail with small groups of campers, grades k-5.

Join Broadmoor’s team of committed staff who enjoy working and learning together. Counselors in Training set an example for campers; help camp educators set-up equipment, lead and create activities, assist with management and group control and communicate with staff regularly. Volunteers may also participate in helping staff manage campers in before and after care. You can visit www.massaudubon.org/camps to find Broadmoor’s camp brochure and learn more. Space is limited.

Qualifications: Candidates must be at least 15 years of age; have experience working with and enjoy being with children; and have the ability to lead walks on rough terrain.

Schedule: One-half day of training in late June (date determined after school calendars are finalized). Camp runs Monday – Friday, July 2 through August 17. We require volunteers commitment to full sessions (see camp brochure.)

Compensation and Benefits: Community service hours.

Naturalist Educator, Public Programs
Location: Natick, MA

Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary is seeking one or more part-time Naturalist leaders to teach after school and weekend programs for children and families. This person must be an engaging, experienced, and enthusiastic presenter and leader. Hours vary considerably and are highly irregular.

Begins September 2011 and ends June 30, 2012

Responsibilities:

  • Help develop and deliver a variety of engaging and hands-on outdoor environmental education programs for children’s birthdays, scout groups, and families.
  • May also include teaching vacation week programs during February and April.

Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching childrenin formal and/or informal settings, or combination of education, training, and experience
  • Knowledge of/interest in the natural sciences, environmental education and experience with inquiry based, experiential learning desirable
  • Must be a skilled and effective communicator (oral, written, and visual) and comfortable speaking in front of groups of all ages
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and interacting with the public. Experience working with children in outdoor settings a plus
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and with a team
  • Effective group management skills
  • Able to successfully lead and control active outdoor programs
  • Must be able to work primarily weekend days and after-school hours

Trail Maintenance Volunteers (September through April)
Location: Natick, MA

Looking for a volunteer project for your company or other group? Broadmoor is looking for adult groups who would like to assist with clearing trail edges by removing invasive plant species.

Qualifications: Ability to use hand tools including loppers, bow saws, and clippers.
