We’re over the top! The incredible generosity of many friends and supporters has helped us reach our goal of $1.6M. This strong level of support will allow us to begin construction this month (April 2013).
Our focus is on upgrading and expanding the Saltonstall Nature Center to help achieve the goals of serving even more children, adults and families, while continuing to lead by example in terms of energy efficiency and green technology.
While we have reached our initial goal, it’s not too late to join the campaign and help us make the renovations and addition even better. Every dollar will be invested to create a welcoming, accessible and even more engaging place for you to connect with nature.
Keep up with the project on our blog - Branching Out at Broadmoor.

Growing Up! |
Our exciting plans include:
Create Highly Functional and Welcoming Visitor Entryways
- Improve main entryway
- Create second entryway especially for groups
“Our entryway is the gateway to all Broadmoor has to offer. It should be our smile—bright, friendly, and a welcome sight for all visitors.”
-B. Anderson, Broadmoor supporter and volunteer
Improve the Nature Center’s Accessibility for All Visitors
- Install an elevator for easy access to lower level
“As Principal of an elementary school, I see the benefit in having students experience firsthand the joys and wonders of nature and our environment. Anything Broadmoor can do to improve its infrastructure would be a benefit to the Sanctuary and to all the children who attend classes, workshops, or field trips.”
-W. McDonald, Elementary School Principle
Reconfigure and Expand Educational Space for Programs
- Reconfigure lower level floor plan for more program space
- Add kitchen and space for a bird banding station
“We are excited to see Broadmoor thriving as a center for education programs and conservation, with programs so popular that at times every space is fully booked!”
-The Willis Family, Long time Broadmoor Supporters
Upgrade the Sunspace
- Upgrade materials for durability
- Improve energy efficiency
“As growing concern for the environment began to draw my attention, I realized Broadmoor's green technology is so very important. We are a great resource and need to make sure we stay state of the art.”
-M. Robinson, Campaign Chair
Renovate the Saltonstall Nature Center
- Upgrade heating/cooling facility for expanded program space
- Redesign electrical matrix to handle current and future needs
- Attend to plumbing and heating systems, as well as aesthetics of office spaces
deteriorated by years of use
"I want to preserve Broadmoor so my children and grandkids can enjoy it, too. Many generations deserve to know the wonder of this place, and the Nature Center serves as the gateway to the nature beyond it.”
-T. Abu-Jaber, Sanctuary Committee Member
