Black-eyed Susan, ©Brian AmiciFebruary 4 - 28, 2012

Mass Audubon’s second statewide photo contest, "Picture This: Your Great Outdoors", attracted more than 2,700 striking photographs that highlight people in nature and the beauty of Massachusetts wildlife and landscapes. More than 700 entrants of all ages submitted images.

An exhibit opening, with light refreshments, is scheduled for Sunday, February 12, 1-3pm.  All are welcome.

This exhibit showcases the top 24 entries from across the Commonwealth: majestic vistas, beautiful birds, a family of foxes, snowy woods – all quintessential Massachusetts scenes.

The photo contest was featured in the Boston Globe and can also be seen here - http://www.massaudubon.org/picturethis/

Portals, scultpture by Carolyn LewenbergOne of the large sculptures in this summer’s Art in the Park exhibit in Elm Park is currently installed at Broad Meadow Brook.

Portals by Carolyn Lewenberg graces three trees in the sanctuary’s nature play area. Made of vines, tires, and stainless steel bowls, the sculpture will be on display as long as the elements allow.

Says Lewenberg, “The vines used to create them had been strangling another tree and have been woven in the same way they grow naturally. What had been a parasitic element on one tree becomes decorative pendant-like features on another.”

Visitors may view the sculpture whenever trails are open, dawn to dusk, 7 days a week.
