Group Programs for Children and Young Adults
The Blue Hills Trailside Museum offers a variety of fun and educational nature-based programs for scout troops, birthdays, and more. Our programs feature native wildlife when appropriate. We also have two unique spaces for meetings or special events.

Scout Programs
The Blue Hills Trailside Museum offers programs for all levels of Girl and Boy Scouts. Our qualified educators are available to lead programs to fulfill the requirements of specific badges and awards. Programs are offered after school or on weekends. Birthday Parties
If you child enjoys nature, why not celebrate his or her birthday in the Blue Hills? We provide the program and facilities; you provide the birthday decorations and cake. Trailside Museum birthday parties are for ages 3 and older and are scheduled for two hours on Saturdays or Sundays from 2:30 – 4:30 PM.
Birthday Parties include:
- admission to the museum and grounds for you and your guests
- exclusive use of our auditorium
- a 50 to 60 minute naturalist program based on the topic of your choice

Preschool Programs
These programs provide wonderful learning opportunities for your preschool students. The programs are a mix of hands-on activities, experiments, songs, demonstrations, stories, and a visit with a native animal. Our programs are specially designed to strengthen listening and observation skills while teaching students about the natural world. Search the School Program Catalog Download our Brochure (pdf)

Facility Rentals
Our spacious auditorium overlooks a beautiful pond teeming with wildlife and has several bird and mammal exhibits. The Museum also operates the Norman Smith Environmental Education Center, located at the top of scenic Chickatawbut Hill in the Blue Hills Reservation. The Education Center offers a commercial-sized kitchen, a spacious dining hall, a dormitory that sleeps up to 40 individuals, and the opportunity to experience nature while enjoying breathtaking views of Boston and the surrounding area.
