Camp

Adventurer Camp Educator
Location: Milton, MA

Adventurer Camp Educators lead groups of campers ranging from ages 11-14 during our summer camp located at the Norman Smith Education Center in the Blue Hills Reservation. Adventurer Camp Educators develop, plan, and implement age-appropriate nature-based activities, including hikes, games and crafts, supervise the health and safety of campers, and communicate with camp staff and parents. The end of each session includes an overnight on and off site.

Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 21 with 2 years of driving experience and a clean driving record. Have an interest and general knowledge of natural history and/or education. Have or working toward a bachelor’s in environmental studies, biology, education or related field is a plus but not necessary. Must have previous experience working with and enjoy being with children; have the ability to lead groups over rough terrain and be able to work both cooperatively and independently, have a positive attitude, love of nature, and a willingness to learn. Current certification in Community CPR and First Aid or an equivalent current certification is required.

Schedule: Training occurs June 11-13 and June 17-21. Camp runs Monday-Friday, July 15 - August 23; Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with 4 overnight classes on Thursday-Friday evening.

Compensation and Benefits: $9.00 - $11.00/hour depending on experience, housing available for $40/week.

Assistant Camp Director
Location: Milton, MA

The Assistant Camp Director will support the Camp Director in the daily operations of camp and directly supervise the aftercare program from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., located at the Norman Smith Education Center in the Blue Hills Reservation. The Assistant Camp Director will assist in many of the administrative aspects of camp, oversee the health and safety of campers, communicate with parents, assist in the supervision of camp staff and high-school aged volunteers and help camp staff with program planning and substitute teach when needed.

Qualifications: Applicant must be at least 25 years old. Have at least two years of camp experience in a leadership role. At least two years of experience working with and enjoy being with children ages 5-14 years old, have an interest and general knowledge of natural history and/or education. Must have the ability to lead groups over rough terrain and be able to work both cooperatively and independently. Must be comfortable in a leadership role, have strong interpersonal skills, have an enthusiastic and positive attitude, a love of nature and have a willingness to learn. Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, computer skills in areas such as word processing, spreadsheets, database entry and blogging and a strong commitment to high quality customer service. Current certification in Community CPR and First Aid or an equivalent current certification is required.

Schedule: Training occurs June 11-13 and June 17-21. Camp runs Monday -Friday, June 24- August 25. Hours: 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. with occasional morning hours and overnights during the summer.

There is a possibility to work part-time, as needed, starting June 1st.

Compensation and Benefits: $10.00 - $12.00/hour depending on experience, housing available for $40/week.

Junior Camp Educator
Location: Milton, MA

Must have previous experience working with and enjoy being with children; have the ability to lead groups over rough terrain and be able to work both cooperatively and independently; have a positive attitude, love of nature, and a willingness to learn. Current certification in Community CPR and First Aid or an equivalent current certification is required.

Schedule: Training occurs June 11-13 and June 17-21. Camp runs Monday-Friday, June 24-August 23; Hours: 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Blue Hills Trailside Museum offers a variety of exciting volunteer opportunities and internships for people of all interests and experience levels. Volunteers are valued members of the Mass Audubon team and provide an important link to our local communities. Whether you have a lifetime interest in nature or are just getting started, Blue Hills Trailside Museum has a place for you.

Volunteer

Volunteer Front Desk Representatives
Location: Milton, MA

The Blue Hills Trailside Museum features educational programs and exhibits that focus on the local natural history of the Department of Conservation and Recreation’s 7,000-acre Blue Hills Reservation, including live native, non-releasable wildlife. We are seeking front desk representatives to welcome our visitors, process purchases and Museum admissions with a cash register, promote Mass Audubon membership, answer telephone inquiries, provide hiking recommendations and related tasks. Weekly positions available for Fridays 10am-1pm, biweekly Saturdays 2pm-5pm, biweekly Sundays 10am-1pm and biweekly Sundays 1pm-4pm. Minimum commitment requested of 6 months.

Qualifications: Individuals should enjoy speaking with the public, have experience in a customer service related position, and enjoy helping others to appreciate the natural world. Ages 16+
