Montana Grasslands and Prairie Spring Adult Trip
Program Location: North America Leaders: Wayne Petersen, Director, Important Bird Areas program
Fee: $2,660 m / $2,660 nm
Dates: June 5, 2010-June 14, 2010
Join us at a number of Montana’s Important Bird Areas to search out signature prairie species such as McCown’s and Chestnut-collared Longspurs, Sprague’s Pipits, Upland Sandpipers, Long-billed Curlews, Baird’s and Grasshopper Sparrows, and others. Pronghorns and Prairie Dogs – the latter with their attendant Burrowing Owls -- are other highlights. Ferruginous Hawks, Swainson’s Hawks and Golden Eagles are regular sightings; with luck we may find the rare Mountain Plover. In addition to birding, we will find that the prairie wildflowers, the region’s mammals, and the local Montana culture are all enjoyable. This is farming and ranching country with a lot of open space, beautiful rivers, and small towns with local flair. Portions of this tour price will go towards the Massachusetts Important Bird Area program.
