Botswana: Birding and Big Game Adult Trip
Program Location: Africa Leaders: Wayne Petersen, Director, Important Bird Areas program
Fee: $6,495 m / $6,495 nm
Dates: March 21, 2010-April 2, 2010
Experience the euphoria of a birding and big game safari to Botswana. The Okavango Delta is a wetland wilderness of looping channels, islands forested with palms and wide grassy floodplains. Home to a magnificent array of mammals (elephant, lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, among many more) with particularly extraordinary birding in late March (Pel’s Fishing Owl, Slaty Egret, Wattled Crane and more), this trip is incomparable. In contrast to the wetlands, we will also visit the famed Kalahari Desert – one of the most remote and unspoiled areas in all of Africa. After sunset, the Kalahari is alive with the sounds of roaring lions, White-faced Scops-Owls and the bark of geckos. Birding specialties we may see include Burchell’s Sandgrouse, Grey-backed Sparrowlark, Kalahari Scrub-robin, and African Wren-Warbler maybe found. Accommodations are luxurious, food is outstanding, and the guides world class.
