Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary Part Time Teaching/Preschool Substitute Positions Location: Easthampton, MA Arcadia Wildlife Sanctuary seeks substitute teachers for our morning preschool program, as well as to assist in weekend birthday parties, vacation weeks, and school programs. This position requires someone who has preschool experience, patience and a love of both children and nature. The Pre-School substitute fills in and assists our teachers in providing a fun, educational and safe environment for our nature pre-school which runs mornings from 9:00 am-noon. Birthday parties are held on weekends. Qualifications: Experience working with children and a love of the natural world, enthusiasm and energetic. All candidates must undergo background checks. Boston Nature Center Pathways to Nature – Assistant Preschool Teachers Location: Mattapan, MA The Assistant Teacher must possess a love of nature and teaching outdoors with children ages 2.9 to 6 years old. The teacher works with a team of educators to implement a multi-sensory, hands-on/minds-on, nature-based science curriculum; incorporating emergent language and math experiences along with creative arts, music, cooking and the development of social skills. The majority of each day is spent outdoors, exploring the 67 acre wildlife sanctuary with the preschoolers. The teacher maintains clear communication with the team to ensure developmentally appropriate teaching practices/activities are being implemented. The teacher will connect with families, assist the teachers as needed, and maintain a warm, professional relationship with children, their parents and caregivers.
General Responsibilities:

Provides a physically and emotionally safe environment for young children both indoor and outdoor settings.
- Implement a curriculum that reflects the needs of the children, the standards for early childhood education and the mission of Mass Audubon under the supervision of teachers.
- Follows Pathways to Nature Preschool Behavior Management Plan and all other preschool regulations.
- Helps maintain the physical environment by contributing to housekeeping tasks as needed.
- Preschool teachers will spend 2 or more hours daily outdoors with the students during all seasons, except in high winds, extreme cold, rain or sleet.
- Maintains schedule as determined by the Preschool Director.
Qualifications: Possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with inquiry-based education preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and independently required. Demonstrated ability to promote and respect diversity of ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds and, physical and mental disabilities. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and commitment to helping others grow in understanding of and concern for the environment and people’s relationship to it. Fluency in English/Spanish (or other language) is desirable. Ability to lead walks on trails, current first aid/CPR or willing to obtain the certification. Compensation and Benefits: Salary Range: $13-$15/hour. Two Part Time (15 hours/week) Assistant Teachers. Start Date: August 5, 2013 (negotiable)

Development Development Officer Location: Barnstable, MA The Development Officer oversees the development program at the Mass Audubon’s Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuary in Barnstable, Massachusetts, the center of Mass Audubon activity on the Mid and Upper Cape. This is a part-time position.
The Development Officer is responsible for increasing the base of annual operating support by identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding high-end individual Leadership Friends; funding the implementation of the strategic plan through major gifts for organizational capacity building, school-based educational programs, and other initiatives; fundraising, stewardship and community outreach events and activities; collaborating with grants staff on foundation and government proposals; organizational visibility and marketing; and future capital campaigns.
The Development Officer reports to the Development Director for Wellfleet Bay and Long Pasture Wildlife Sanctuaries, works closely with the Long Pasture Sanctuary Director and staff, and is part of a larger Mass Audubon Philanthropy team across the state. The position is based in Barnstable with occasional travel in Eastern Massachusetts.
Core Responsibilities
- Work with Philanthropy and Sanctuary staff to create fundraising plans and coordinate strategies to meet annual, programmatic, capacity building and capital goals.
- Maintain and grow a portfolio of Leadership Friend annual donors making annual gifts of $750 to $25,000+, and implement a cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategy for each prospect.
- Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit prospects to become new Leadership Friend annual donors, and to make major gifts for programmatic, capacity building and capital needs, through database analysis, online research, prospecting events, and peer review.
- Work with grants staff to identify new sources of foundation, corporate and government funding, and prepare and edit grant proposals.
- Write personal correspondence to donors and funders and prepare fundraising collateral materials for donor and prospect print, email, and online communications.
- Plan and execute donor stewardship, prospect cultivation, and community outreach events.
- Coordinate gift acknowledgment process and donor recognition.
- Develop and oversee a cadre of high level volunteers to assist in fundraising efforts.
- Coordinate with marketing and PR staff to execute an effective organizational marketing, visibility and media relations strategy for the Sanctuaries of the Mid and Upper Cape.
- Work with Philanthropy and Sanctuary staff to meet campaign readiness goals, support feasibility study activities, conduct campaign planning, and serve as primary staff for any future capital campaigns.
- Participate in regular Philanthropy Department staff meetings.
- Participate in other Sanctuary and organization-wide fundraising initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:

3 to 5 years of development experience, or equivalent transferrable skills.
- Experience preferred in building and sustaining an individual leadership donor base,
creating and executing effective strategies to motivate donors and prospects.
- Experience in successfully managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Experience with fundraising databases and Microsoft Office products.
- Experience in annual giving, grant writing, and special events.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills; proven ability to write clearly and persuasively.
- Ability to work with a small team and also as part of a large complex organization emphasizing teamwork, collegiality, respect and excellence.
- Ability to communicate Mass Audubon’s mission and work with passion and conviction.
- Ability to relate to a diverse range of people and exercise cultural competence and inclusion.
- Willingness to travel on occasion and possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- B.A./B.S. degree or higher.
- Employment requires successful completion of a CORI and SORI.
Preferred Qualifications
- A commitment to Mass Audubon’s mission.
- Familiarity with desktop publishing software such as In-Design a plus.
- Ability to think strategically and manage activity at multiple sites across the Mid and
Upper Cape.

Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary Lead Preschool Teacher Location: Lincoln, MA Join the Mass Audubon team … and be a part of Massachusetts’ largest conservation and environmental education organization! Drumlin Farm Community Preschool seeks a dynamic, energetic part-time teacher (16 hours/week) to teach hands-on farm/nature curriculum with a multi-disciplinary focus, to preschoolers on a working farm and sanctuary. Individuals will work with the director to implement, develop and oversee the preschool program in accordance with Mass Audubon’s goals and objectives, as well as MA state regulations. Qualifications: EEC Lead Teacher certification, BA degree in Early Childhood Education or relevant field, and at least 5 years of experience working with preschool age children required. Experience in curriculum development, implementation and evaluation of programs desired. Teacher must possess a love of nature and teaching outdoors, along with an eagerness to learn how to handle animals (both farm animals and wildlife) within an educational setting for children and families. Weekend Teachers for Environmental Education Programs Location: Lincoln, MA Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary seeks part-time seasonal teachers for Saturday and Sunday environmental education programs beginning this summer. Develop and teach hands-on natural history and farm curriculum for all ages on-site at the sanctuary and farm as part of our drop-in visitor education program. Qualifications: Experience working with children and knowledge of or interest in natural history and farming a must. Environmental education or classroom experience a plus. Applicants must be available to be scheduled a minimum of 2 weekend days per month, 9am-5pm. Weekday availability a plus but not required. Compensation and Benefits: Hourly wage with paid training. Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Administrative Assistant/Office Manager Location: S. Wellfleet, MA This position is 20 hours/week from November to April and 40 hours/week from May to October.
- Organize and coordinate office operations and procedures. Hire, train, and
supervise office administrative staff.
- Answer phone calls and routine inquiries. Handle requests for information and data. Oversee and assist with program registration.
- Prepare time sheets. Maintain employee attendance records.
- Maintain office equipment and office supply inventory.
- Responsible for accounts receivable and payable, bank deposits, and credit card reconciliation.
- Perform a variety of secretarial duties using Microsoft Office.
- Maintain office records. Ensure protection and security of files and records.
- Responsible for facility rental (nature center, campground, dormitory) and vehicle assignments.
- Perform other related duties as required.
40 hours per week; may be required to work on weekends and/or evenings. Travel to off-Cape meetings is required.Qualifications: Applicant must have proficient knowledge of office administration, particularly bookkeeping and bill paying knowledge and experience, as well as the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information.
