Blue Hills Trailside Museum

The Blue Hills Trailside Museum is a small natural history museum situated at the base of Great Blue Hill, owned by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) and managed by Mass Audubon. It is the gateway to the 7000 acre Blue Hills Reservation. The museum features exhibits using native, non-releasable animals and offers a variety of educational programs.

Education Coordinator III
Location: Milton, MA

The Blue Hills Trailside Museum is seeking an energetic and engaging Education Coordinator III to manage, coordinate, prepare and market an array of education programs for youth, families, and adults.

Manage and oversee program development, implementation, and evaluation of all educational programs including weekend programs, school programs, group programs, workshops, scout programs, public programs, special events and summer camp. Develop and manage education department budget and supervise teaching staff and volunteers. Coordinate effective marketing strategies, promotional materials, community outreach, and publicity for all programs and events. Develop and implement a vision for expanded educational programs to reach a broad and diverse audience. Collaborate with DCR in development of programs in support of Mass Audubon and DCR organizational missions. Strengthen existing partnerships with local schools and create new ones through networking and cooperative projects. Plan and teach up to twenty percent of educational programs. Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications: Bachelor‘s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education or equivalent, and a minimum of five years experience in environmental education/interpretive programming; or Master’s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires 4 years of prior supervisory experience of staff/ volunteers and 4 years of prior experience in budget development and management, as well as revenue forecasting and financial recordkeeping. This position requires a valid driver‘s license, clean driving record and successful completion of CORI and SORI. Applicants must possess strong communication, organizational, and natural history skills; have experience in environmental education curriculum development and methods; be able to manage multiple tasks concurrently; and adjust to seasonal changes in workload. Experience using captive wildlife in educational programs a plus but not required.

Development

Administrative Assistant – 30 hours/week
Location: Lincoln, MA

Provide a full range of administrative support to the Development Department including, but not limited to, document management and filing, mail merges, and proofing of correspondence, event invitations, and other written materials.

Specific duties include: Maintaining all Individual donor files according to Mass Audubon policies and with highest regard to confidentiality. Providing printing and mailing support. Coordinating and creating renewal membership cards and packages and processing gifts.

Qualifications: High school diploma or minimum of 2 years related office experience. Excellent computer skills required including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with member databases preferred. Candidate should have excellent proofreading and organizational skills as well as strong verbal and written communications skills (in person, email and telephone). Position requires a valid driver’s license.

Vice President of Philanthropy

The organization is well positioned to leverage increased individual giving from its major donors and expand its base of new major donors. Working in close partnership with Membership, Marketing and Communications, Sanctuary Directors, and a committed Philanthropy staff, the Vice President of Philanthropy will have opportunities for identifying and cultivating increased relationships with individuals, corporations and foundations, as well as taking good systems and operations to the next level of industry best practice. The next VP of Philanthropy will be charged to build a donor-centered, content-driven fundraising program.

Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary

Live Stock Assistant
Location: Lincoln, MA

Drumlin Farm seeks a full-time (32-40 hours per week) Livestock Assistant. Under the supervision of the Livestock Manager, the Assistant will help care for and manage the livestock operation and support Drumlin’s farm-based education programs. Flexible schedule includes one weekend day and some holidays. The person in this position is required to live on-site.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides daily care of livestock including feeding and cleaning.
  • Helps maintain health of livestock including, diet and feeding; ordering of feed; veterinary care de-worming schedule, vaccine programs, animal medication inventory, and emergency care; and maintaining medical records.
  • Helps manage breeding programs for all livestock.
  • Assists in birthing of all livestock.
  • Helps manage meat, yarn, sheepskins and egg sales.
  • Assists in hay production.
  • Assists in making goats’ milk soap.
  • Assists in pasture management including rotational grazing program.
  • Assists in manure management.
  • Assists in barn and facilities maintenance including fencing, pens, and livestock equipment.
  • Supervises volunteers during chores and other livestock jobs when Livestock Manager is not present.
  • Manages rotational mobile chicken coop.
  • Assists in maintaining clear communications with educational staff.

Qualifications: At least 2 years of large animal care experience. Must be hard working, dependable, and open to learning new skills; ability to organize and work with interns and volunteers; capable of operating mechanical equipment such as mowers, tractors, and trucks; and willing to work a flexible schedule. Ability to communicate easily with staff and the public. Requires First Aid and CPR certification upon hire, as well as successful completion of a CORI and SORI screening. Valid MA driver‘s license, ability to lift 50 pounds and traverse uneven terrain. Knowledge of basic carpentry skills helpful.

Wildlife Care Supervisor
Location: Lincoln, MA

The Wildlife Care Supervisor is primarily responsible for the the health and overall care of resident wildlife. S/he supports the Wildlife Program Coordinator by designing and conducting teacher naturalist trainings as it pertains to the use of wildlife, training of program animals, and other aspects of the operations of the Wildlife Care Unit. The Wildlife Care Supervisor co-supervises the assistants and volunteers in the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and participates in the care of wildlife including feeding, cleaning cages and enclosures, enrichment, maintaining USDA requirements and standards, administering medications, addressing health issues in cooperation with the veterinarian, and other standard and emergency measures.
  • Trains and co-supervises Wildlife Care Assistants and volunteers in carrying out their responsibilities.
  • Procures food and other supplies.
  • Assists with animal acquisitions and the training of newly acquired wildlife.
  • Assists with tracking of annual budget.
  • Conducts trainings for teachers on wildlife handling.
  • Works with the Wildlife Program Coordinator and key education staff to develop wildlife programming.
  • Performs various building, exhibit and grounds maintenance projects required to support the wildlife care unit.

Qualifications: A college degree in a related field and 3 years of experience as a veterinary technician or equivalent in an animal care field. Proven supervisory and organizational skills. Strong knowledge of wildlife biology and related natural history topics. Ability to communicate easily with the staff and the public. Prior environmental education experience preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Requires First Aid and CPR certification upon hire, as well as successful completion of a CORI and SORI screening. Valid MA driver‘s license, ability to lift 50 pounds and traverse uneven terrain. Knowledge of basic carpentry skills helpful. Must be able to cover for all wildlife care staff, including emergencies and snow days. Will include some weekends and holidays.

Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary

Education Coordinator III
Location: S. Wellfleet, MA

Wellfleet Bay is seeking an energetic and engaging Education Coordinator III to coordinate adult, children’s, and family public programs. This individual, working with an existing staff, will be responsible for program design, budget development, and staff management for the education department. Coordinator will supervise Program Registrar, Day Camp and School Program Coordinator, two teacher naturalists, several contract staff, and a number of seasonal staff. The coordinator is expected to deliver programs and have extensive experience in ornithology, marine biology, or related subject areas. Coordinator will also oversee marketing and promotion of programs.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biological science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, science education or equivalent, and a minimum of 5 years experience in environmental education or Master’s degree in biological science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or science education or equivalent, and a minimum of 4 years experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
