Development Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary
Development Development Manager Location: Wellfleet, MA The Development Manager is responsible for directing the overall development program at Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and overseeing the emerging program at Long Pasture in Barnstable. The focus of this position is on stewarding and expanding a loyal base of high-end annual fund donors, coordinating foundation and government proposals with grants staff, supporting Sanctuary Advisory Committees at each site, overseeing fundraising and stewardship events, and executing occasional capital and special project campaigns.
Working closely with two Sanctuary Directors and central development staff, the Development Manager reports to the Director of Development for Sanctuaries and Programs and supervises a part-time Development Associate. This position is based in Wellfleet with occasional travel to Long Pasture, Mass Audubon headquarters in Lincoln, and other meeting venues as required.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a portfolio of approximately 125 active Mass Audubon donors and prospects with the capacity, interest, and inclination to make annual gifts of $750 to $25,000+.
- Create and implement a cultivation/solicitation/stewardship strategy for each prospect.
- Work with Sanctuary Directors and other Mass Audubon staff to establish annual fundraising plans and coordinate strategies to meet annual operating support goals.
- Organize and execute occasional capital and special project campaigns.
- Work with grants staff to identify new sources of foundation, corporate, and government funding, and actively participate in writing and editing grant proposals.
- Write personal notes/letters and occasional updates/reports to donors and funders.
- Oversee donor recognition/gift acknowledgement process for sanctuary gifts of $250+.
- Oversee planning and execution of prospect cultivation and donor stewardship events.
- Supervise a Development Associate (donor stewardship/special events coordinator).
- Help the Sanctuary Directors recruit and manage Sanctuary Advisory Committees of leadership donors; plan agendas, facilitate training, schedule and help lead meetings.
- Manage ongoing efforts to identify and qualify additional leadership prospects through new member/prospect events, database analysis, online research, and peer networking.
- Oversee the design, writing, editing, and distribution of the sanctuary newsletters, annual reports, fundraising collateral materials, and online donor communications.
- Coordinate with marketing and PR staff to execute an effective media relations strategy.
- Participate in biweekly Philanthropy Department staff meetings by phone or in person.
- Participate in other sanctuary and organization-wide fundraising initiatives as needed.
Qualifications:
- 5 to 7 years of progressive development experience, preferably with community-based organizations.
- Solid knowledge and experience working within the Cape’s philanthropic community.
- Proven experience in building and sustaining an individual leadership donor base.
- Ability to develop and execute effective strategies to motivate donors and prospects.
- Solid understanding of annual giving, grant writing, and special events.
- Ability to work in a small shop and as part of a large, complex organization emphasizing teamwork, collegiality, respect, and excellence.
- The ability to think strategically, work independently, and lead by example.
- Experience in successfully managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational abilities.
- Strong verbal communication skills; proven ability to write clearly and persuasively.
- Ability to communicate Mass Audubon’s mission and work with passion and conviction.
- Familiarity with membership and fundraising databases and Microsoft Office products.
- Willingness to travel within Massachusetts; possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- B.A./B.S. degree or higher.

Drumlin Farm Wildlife Sanctuary Livestock Farm Hand Location: Lincoln, MA Drumlin Farm seeks a full-time (40 hrs per week) Livestock Farm Hand. Under the supervision of the Livestock Manager, the Farm Hand will help care for and manage the livestock operation and support Drumlin Farm's farm-based education programs. Flexible schedule includes one weekend day and some holidays. This position requires that the person live on-site.
Responsibilities:
- Provides daily care of livestock including feeding and cleaning.
- Helps maintain health of livestock including: diet and feeding; ordering of feed; veterinary care - de-worming schedule, vaccine programs, animal medication inventory, and emergency care.
- Assists in birthing of all livestock.
- Helps manage meat, yarn, sheepskins and egg sales.
- Assists in hay production.
- Assists in pasture management including rotational grazing program.
- Assists in manure management.
- Assists in barn and facilities maintenance including fencing, pens, and livestock equipment.
- Supervises volunteers during chores and other livestock jobs when Livestock Manager is not present.
- Manages rotational mobile chicken coop.
- Assists in maintaining clear communications with educational staff.
Qualifications: At least 2 years of large animal care experience, specifically cows, sheep, goats, pigs, and chickens. Must be hard working, dependable, and open to learning new skills; ability to organize and work with interns and volunteers; capable of operating mechanical equipment such as mowers, tractors, and trucks; and willing to work a flexible schedule. Ability to communicate easily with staff and the public. Requires First Aid and CPR certification upon hire, as well as successful completion of a CORI and SORI screening. Valid MA driver‘s license, ability to lift 50 pounds, and traverse uneven terrain. Knowledge of basic carpentry skills helpful. Benefits: Full benefits package. Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary Day Camp Registrar Location: South Wellfleet, MA The Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary seeks an organized and self-motivated individual who has experience using database management programs, has demonstrated strong attention to detail, and enjoys working with the public to serve as the Day Camp Registrar. Under the direction of the Day Camp Director, the day camp registrar will manage day camp registrations for the Wellfleet Bay Natural History Day Camp and the new Mass Audubon Natural History Day Camp in Chatham; the potential enrollment for these camps is estimated at one thousand customers. The day camp registrar assists customers with initial registrations, ensures completion of all health and liability forms, facilitates the payment, financial aid, and scholarship process, and creates the camp rosters. S/he is responsible for communicating rules and regulations with the registrants, and answers all customer inquires via phone and e-mail, and in person. S/he may also additionally support sanctuary staff in other aspects of sanctuary operations as needed. Qualifications: Minimum of an Associate’s degree in business administration or other related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred, plus 3 years relevant experience. Applicant must be computer proficient with experience in Microsoft Office and be comfortable with online registration and learning new programs. Database management software experience required; applicants should specify which programs they have used and in what capacity. Success in this position requires strong attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills (including a strong grasp of the rules of spelling and grammar), and strong organizational skills. Additionally, the successful candidate must be able to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, possess patience and outstanding customer service skills, and be a team player. This position involves working 20-40 hours per week (generally 40 hours throughout the spring and summer, fewer in the fall and winter), typically Monday – Friday, some Saturday hours may be required. Educational Coordinator II / School Programs Coordinator Location: S. Wellfleet, MA The Massachusetts Audubon Society’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary seeks a self-motivated, passionate educator with experience developing, coordinating, and teaching natural history programs in school settings, in the field, and on the water. Under the direction of the Education Director, the school programs coordinator will
- Manage extensive relationships with local schools.
- Train and supervise contract teaching staff.
- Develop new programs that meet the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, promote scientific literacy, and an appreciation for the natural world.
- Teach a variety of natural history programs for school audiences (and for family and group audiences as needed) in formal settings, in the field, and in/on the water.
- Market programs to off-Cape schools.
- Manage school program budgets and scholarship funds, and keep accurate records of program registrations and participants.
Other time may be used to teach educational programs in accordance with Mass Audubon’s philosophy, goals, standards, and practices.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education or equivalent, and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in environmental education or Master’s degree in biological or earth science, environmental studies, nature interpretation, or education or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires 2 years of prior supervisory experience of staff/volunteers. Requires 2 years of prior experience in budget development and management, as well as revenue forecasting and financial recordkeeping. Ability to relate to a diverse range of people and exercise cultural competence and inclusion. Successful candidates will be comfortable teaching on boats and wading in marine environments, have strong birding skills and/or an ornithology background, and experience teaching at the middle/ high school level. Knowledge of local natural history, environmental policies, and conservation science issues desirable. Requires First Aid and CPR certification upon hire.
