Donate
The easiest way to help is to make a donation. Putting up nest boxes can be an expensive endeavor. Building the boxes, mounting them on poles, and getting them where they need to go entail significant expenses. By donating to Mass Audubon, you can help fund new homes for kestrels in need.
Report
Seen a kestrel? Let us know! You can report it online with our American Kestrel map tool. Safe dates for breeding American Kestrels in Massachusetts range from May 10 to July 20. Simply record when and where you saw the bird, along with a brief note as to what it was doing. This information can help us choose good sites for new boxes!
Monitor
If you've got a lot of time and enthusiasm, we might be able to use your help as a volunteer Kestrel Box Monitor. Monitors will be assigned to check boxes frequently during the breeding season and to record important breeding data for use in evaluating the effectiveness of the program. Contact us.
In our efforts to protect the wildlife of Massachusetts and the habitats they depend upon, Mass Audubon needs the energetic support of volunteers like you. By participating in this Kestrel Project, you will be making a valuable contribution to our understanding of the status of American Kestrels in our area.
