The Field Program
Summer 2010
three-day experiential courses
For students entering Grades 9–12
10am–4pm, Tuesday through Thursday
with a Thursday evening session from 7-10pm
Fee for members and non-members will be on a per session basis.
The Field Program is an amazing opportunity for you to immerse yourself in a topic alongside career professionals. Our three courses (see below) provide very different experiences reflecting the different natures of the subject matter.

July 27-29
Extreme Outdoors
|

Tuesday:
|
Attempt to complete a low ropes course and experience the thrill of a zip line at Camp Burgess and Hayward's challenge course facility on the upper Cape. We'll need to work as a team and, of course, we'll put safety first!

| Wednesday: |
Spend the day kayaking and snorkeling at various locations on the outer Cape. Also, using orienteering skills, find your way through a natural marsh maze.
|
| Thursday: |
Gain leadership skills and self-confidence (and have fun) as we bike through the Provincelands. We hope to make it all the way to the ocean for an amazing view.

evening: |
Visit a local Cape Cod ocean-side beach for a campfire (s'mores included), and some night time activities and hiking.

August 3-5
Marine Life 911
|

Tuesday:
|
Travel to the Cape Cod Stranding Network, for an insider's look at what exactly happens to a stranded marine mammal. You will get to see what equipment is used, as well as learn and practice what they and you can do to help out these fascinating creatures.

| Wednesday: |
Meet Bob Prescott, the director at the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, for a necropsy of a sea turtle that has been found on our Cape Cod beaches during the cold-stunned sea turtle season. After the necropsy we will travel out for some snorkeling and exploring.

| Thursday: |
We'll be headed for a day in Provincetown. We will start the day by meeting up with the Center for Coastal Studies and learning more about what type of animals they are helping, and what you can do to help. After, we will be loading onto one of the Dolphin Fleet's vessel for a whale watch.

Visit a local Cape Cod ocean-side beach for a campfire (s'mores included), and some night time activities and hiking.

August 17-19
Cape by Kayak
|

Tuesday:
|
Meet Dick Hilmer, who will be one of your kayak guides throughout the week. Today he will introduce you to the basic kayaking strokes, and take you out on the water for a day of paddling.

| Wednesday: |
Today, we will be kayaking with Dennis Murley, naturalist and local Cape Cod guru. The day will include kayaking in some of our beautiful kettle ponds, as well as some snorkeling.
|
| Thursday: |
We will be out on the water again with Dick Hilmer for a little tidal adventure out on Nauset Marsh. Seal watching, tidal creek paddling, and snorkeling will make this a day to remember.
