Programs for Schools and Children/Young Adult Groups
At the Visual Arts Center, we offer a multitude of fun and educational nature and art-based programs year round for students from age 2 to age 18. Groups are welcome to combine art with nature by visiting our family-friendly art museum with exhibitions from internationally recognized artists and /or explore the 124-acre wildlife sanctuary with diverse habitats including field, forest, and vernal pools. The Visual Art Center can also bring programs to your school or group with an art and nature focus.

Schools
The Visual Arts Center offers a variety of programs for schools geared to the age level and curriculum needs of the students. Our programs seek to develop observational skills and emphasize the fun in learning about both art and nature. A typical school visit lasts two hours, with one hour exploring the art exhibition and the second exploring the wildlife sanctuary. Each program is aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Education frameworks with strands in Life Science, Earth Science, Art, History, and/or Geography. Math learning standards are included in some of our programs. Whether the program takes place at your site or ours, we will work with you to develop a curriculum that meets your needs and the frameworks.

Group Programs for Children
and Young Adults
Whether you’re leading a scout group in search of badges, planning a birthday party, or running a homeschool program, the teacher naturalists at the Visual Arts Center can help. Groups can receive instruction on using the pottery wheel and working with digital photography, as well as enjoy nature exploration through hands-on activities like looking for seeds and bugs in our fields, dip-netting in our vernal pool or stream, and discovering our forest.

** Mass Audubon is always looking for new ways to connect people and nature, and our new School Program Catalog is just one example of how we hope to accomplish that goal. Visual Arts Center is one of the first Mass Audubon sites to be included in this School Program Catalog and we hope to have all of our wildlife sanctuaries in the catalog soon.
