Programs for Schools and Children/Young Adult Groups

At Stony Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, we offer a multitude of fun and educational nature-based programs year round for students from age 3 to age 13. Here, students have the opportunity to investigate four varied habitats—pond, wetland, field, and forest. Our boardwalk allows students unique opportunities to observe and enjoy numerous plants and animals creating many teachable moments.

A sampling of our program topics:

  • Pondering Ponds
  • Food Chains and Webs
  • Habitats
  • Wetlands to Watershed
  • Marsh Mysteries
  • Making Tracks

Schools

Stony Brook’s educational programming furnishes students with a greater understanding and appreciation of the natural world. Staff members are well versed in ecological and educational concepts. We strive to provide only the highest quality programs, which stress hands-on, experiential learning. Each program is aligned with the Massachusetts Department of Education frameworks with strands in Life Science, Earth Science, History, and/or Geography. Math learning standards are included in many programs. Whether the program takes place at your site or ours, we will work with you to develop a curriculum that meets your needs and the frameworks.

** Mass Audubon is always looking for new ways to connect people and nature, and our new School Program Catalog is just one example of how we hope to accomplish that goal. Stony Brook is one of the first Mass Audubon sites to be included in this School Program Catalog and we hope to have all of our wildlife sanctuaries in the catalog soon.
