On Exhibit: Brush with Nature

Birches, painting by Margery JenningsTwo New England artists who paint landscapes in the plein air tradition have their next exhibit at Joppa Flats. Margery Jennings and Dale Partiss Greene will show their work in an exhibit called A Brush with Nature at Joppa Flats Education Center, from May 6 through June 3. The public is cordially invited to meet the artists at a free gallery reception on Sunday, May 6, from 2:30 to 4:00 pm. A portion of all purchases made during the exhibit helps to support Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats.

The daughter of a ranger in the Berkshires, Margery Jennings spent her childhood in a state park, observing the natural world at an intimate and intense level. With a powerful visual sense, she practiced art in one form or another from childhood throughout her years as a graphic artist in the printing trade. In 2007 she became a full-time painter, and from her first year has won awards in regional and national juried events. Also a member of many local art associations, the Amesbury artist’s work may be viewed at: www.margeryjennings.com

Evening Sky, painting by Dale Partiss Greene“My purpose in painting a landscape is not to recreate a scene, but to reconnect with the sense of joy and freedom which is inspired by our natural world,” says Dale Partiss Greene of Ipswich. Having lived and painted most of her life in New England, Dale is a member of many local art associations; her work may be seen at www.dalepartissgreene.com.  She won the Newburyport Art Association’s Laura Coombs Hills Winter Juried Show 2006 Award for Excellence in Oil. She believes that working en plein air (outdoors) presents the most challenging and rewarding opportunities to really see, feel, and connect with the changing moods of nature.
