Co-teach program for 24 campers, ages 10-12, that focuses on ecological principles, team building and outdoor survival. Program includes one overnight and one field trip per two-week session. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in environmental education or related field, work experience with children in outdoor settings and First Aid and CPR certification. Compensation and Benefits: 40 hours/week, additional hours for overnight. Salary starts at $11.00/hour and is commensurate with experience. Housing is possible. Position runs for 10 ˝ weeks, Monday through Friday, from pre-camp training through the last day of camp (June 13th - August 24th). Volunteering with Mass Audubon Habitat offers a variety of exciting volunteer opportunities and internships for people of all interests and experience levels. Volunteers are valued members of the Mass Audubon team and provide an important link to our local communities. Whether you have a lifetime interest in nature or are just getting started, Habitat has a place for you. Volunteer Energetic group and individual volunteers needed! Location: Belmont, MA Join us to participate in any of the following projects or drop in to one of our scheduled groups:
- Meadow restoration – clear edges, plant and seed, create wildlife habitat
- Pond(s) area reclamation and restoration – erosion control, planting, wildlife monitoring
- Vegetation and/or amphibian monitoring
- Invasive plant removal – use loppers and weed wrenches to remove shrubs and vine such as buckthorn and bittersweet, as well as hand removal of garlic mustard and goutweed
- Trail maintenance – spread woodchips, cut overgrowth, erosion control, and re-direct trails
- Property maintenance – shovel snow, prune trees, sweep, rake, paint fences, repair buildings
- Plant and tree identification
- Gardening, composting, and watering – help in our formal, community & children’s gardens
- Carpentry and small construction – build and install birdhouses, boardwalks, benches, raised garden beds, and trellises
- Masonry – stone walls, paver edges, new and old stone walkways, and fountains
- Small engine repair – lawnmowers to tractors
- Tool maintenance
- GPS mapping
- Photography
- e-newsletters, Facebook pages, blogs and other social networking
- Become a leader and create your own volunteer activities
Thursday Morning Garden Group
10:00 a.m. to noon starting April 12, 2012
Learn gardening tips and techniques while working with others to plant, weed, prune, and nurture Habitat‘s beautiful estate gardens.
Wednesday HIP Pulling Partners 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. during the school year; 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. summer and vacation weeks
All ages join to plant trees, remove invasive plants, chip trails and rejuvenate pond, field, and forest habitats.
