School and Group Programs

A pathway for migrating birds... a place of flowing rivers... rolling hills that rise above the rest of the landscape... an environment that has supported both people and wildlife for thousands of years... Worcester County and the Blackstone River Valley are home to all these wonders - and more!

Based at the 400+ acre wildlife sanctuary in Worcester known as Broad Meadow Brook, Mass Audubon education staff work to "protect the nature of Massachusetts" by offering a wide variety of educational programs and services to schools, community groups, and the public.

All of our programs have connections... many are connected to the "threats to biodiversity" Mass Audubon has identified, such as habitat loss or disruption of ecological processes; most are connected to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks (especially science and ecology) and use an inquiry-based approach (which should be of great interest to teachers); and all of them are connected to the idea that a program should be engaging, educational, and be of great interest to the intended audience.

Maybe you'd like us to teach your students about adaptations or life cycles using aquatic invertebrates; perhaps your members would like to know how to attract wildlife to their backyards or begin birding; or there just might be the possibility you'd like your group to have an enjoyable interpretive walk in the woods? If so — we're the folks who can arrange it!

We do interpretive walks, classroom lessons, narrated slide presentations, professional development for teachers and youth leaders, van tours, and canoe-based programming. Our motto is, “If you don’t see what you were looking for, ask us!” For program descriptions and fees, download the "Programs for Schools and Community Groups" brochure*.
