Camp Leaders-In-Training Director Location: Mattapan, MA The Boston Nature Center Day Camp is filled with singing, playing outside, acting silly and lots more. We are looking for an experienced leader to create and implement lessons plans for a small group of campers ages 14 to 15. If you are interested in exploring the outdoors with our oldest campers, guiding and instructing them to become leaders, this is the position for you. The position includes crafting a program in accordance with Mass Audubon educational goals, American Camp Association standards, and the state’s health and safety regulations and facilitating field trips for LITs and helping with other camp activities when needed. Work in a beautiful urban sanctuary as you connect children with nature and build a strong and safe camp community. Qualifications: Applicants should be at least 21 years of age, have experience working with children, and a sense of fun. Environmental Education experience is very helpful. Applicants must have CPR/First aid certification or willing to obtain. CORI, SORI checks required. Compensation and Benefits: Salary: $10 - 15/hour for 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week.
Schedule: Staff training (Saturday, June 16 to Monday, June 25), Start date: June 26th, End date: July 31st (Option to work until August 31st, available). Duties include planning and leading two-hour lessons for diverse audiences with a range of ages, organizing and scheduling new groups to visit the center, and other duties that insure the success of the program. Off-site travel may be necessary. Qualifications: BA or BS, preferably in environmental education, biology or earth science, or science education a minimum. Previous experience as an educator preferred but not required. Familiarity with inquiry-based education and ability to develop curriculum aligned to city and state standards. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work cooperatively and independently required. Demonstrated ability to promote and respect diversity of ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds, and physical and mental disabilities. Demonstrated interpersonal skills and commitment to helping others grow in understanding of and concern for the environment and people’s relationship to it. Fluency in English/Spanish (or other language) desirable. Ability to lead walks on trails, current first aid/CPR or willing to obtain, and a valid driver’s license required. Part-time Development Manager Location: Mattapan, MA The newly created Development Manager position is responsible for directing the emerging development program at Mass Audubon’s Boston Nature Center (BNC). The focus of this role is on building a renewable base of operating fund support by stewarding and expanding a loyal corps of high-end individual Leadership Friends, coordinating with grants staff on foundation and government proposals, and overseeing fundraising and stewardship events and activities. This position reports to the Director of Development for Sanctuaries and Programs and works closely with BNC’s Director and staff. It is based in Boston with local travel as required.
- Maintain a portfolio of up to 75 active Mass Audubon donors and prospects with the capacity, interest, and inclination to make annual gifts of $750 to $25,000+.
- Create and implement a cultivation/solicitation/stewardship strategy for each prospect, coordinating closely with Mass Audubon development staff and the BNC Director.
- Work with development and sanctuary staff to establish annual fundraising plans and coordinate strategies to meet annual operating support goals.
- Work with grants staff to identify new sources of foundation, corporate, and government funding, and actively participate in preparing and editing grant proposals.
- Write personal updates to donors/funders, and assist in preparing fundraising collateral materials and content for other donor communications (web, online, print).
- Coordinate donor recognition and gift acknowledgement process for gifts to BNC.
- Oversee planning and execution of prospect cultivation and donor stewardship events.
- Manage ongoing efforts to identify and qualify additional leadership prospects through prospecting events, database analysis, online research, and peer networking.
- Help support and develop the capacity of the Sanctuary Committee and other volunteer leadership groups to assist in fundraising efforts.
- Coordinate with marketing and PR staff to execute an effective media relations strategy.
- Participate in biweekly Philanthropy Department staff meetings.
- Participate in sanctuary-based and organization-wide fundraising initiatives as needed.
This position is 20 hours/week.Qualifications:
- 5 to 7 years of progressive development experience.
- Proven experience in building and sustaining an individual leadership donor base.
- Ability to create and execute effective strategies to motivate donors and prospects.
- Solid understanding of annual giving, grant writing, and special events.
- Strong analytical, planning, and organizational abilities.
- Strong verbal communication skills; proven ability to write clearly and persuasively.
- Ability to work in a small shop and as part of a large, complex organization emphasizing teamwork, collegiality, respect, and excellence.
- Ability to think strategically, work independently, and lead by example.
- Experience in successfully managing multiple projects and competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate Mass Audubon’s mission and work with passion and conviction.
- Ability to relate to a diverse range of people and exercise cultural competence and inclusion.
- Familiarity with membership and fundraising databases and Microsoft Office products.
- Willingness to travel within Massachusetts and possession of a valid driver’s license.
- Willingness to work occasional weekends and evenings.
- B.A./B.S. degree or higher.
Preferred Qualifications
- Solid knowledge of, and experience working with, the Boston philanthropic community.
- Development experience with community-based and/or conservation organizations.

Back to top Receptionist Location: Mattapan, MA The Boston Nature Center seeks an enthusiastic and organized individual with great interpersonal skills to provide outstanding customer service to visitors and callers. Greet visitors, promote Mass Audubon membership, offer information about the sanctuary and programs, assist with program registration, and perform a variety of administrative duties. Complete specific tasks and office projects relating to outreach, events, program support, and light cleaning.
Schedule: This is a part-time position for weekends, holidays, and evenings, on an as needed basis. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated interest in the natural world. Ability to work well with staff and volunteers. Demonstrated ability to promote and respect diversity including ethnic, cultural, linguistic backgrounds, and physical and mental disabilities.
